There is no "perfect" way to hold a dart. Phil Taylor held his differently than Michael van Gerwen. However, almost all successful grips share three traits: stability, comfort, and a clean release point.
Common Grips
- The Pencil Grip: Holding the barrel exactly like you'd hold a pen. Great for precision.
- The Wide Grip: Fingers spread along the length of the barrel. Offers high stability.
- The Rear Grip: Holding the back of the barrel or the stem. Favored by players with a long, sweeping throw.
